Dawn Makel Lead Rehabilitation Specialist

Ms. Dawn works with people who come to treatment to address a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, traumatic stress, problematic substance use, shame, loss and grief, relationship difficulties, sexual and gender identity, job and academic stress, adjustment challenges to situations such as adoption and new parenthood, and challenges managing and coping with serious health conditions. She has extensive and specialized training in outpatient, hospital, community-based, and research settings providing therapy for over fifteen years to children, adolescents and adults affected by trauma due to out of home placement and its consequences, including those struggling with childhood abuse, sexual assault, life-threatening illness, substance abuse, self-judgment, shame, and unhealthy relationship patterns.

Commia Max Browne Rehabilitation Specialist

Commia Max-Browne earned her Associates’ degree with a concentration in Mental Health from Montgomery College in 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2010. She also earned her Master of Social Work from the University of New England in 2015. She is a Licensed Master Social Worker with over 12 years’ experience working with children, families, and individuals as an agent of support and guidance. Her experience varies from working with the Department of Social Services, public school system, treatment foster care, public health, and in a community mental health setting. This is where she cultivated her passion for advocacy and social justice. Commia was honorably discharged from the United States Army National Guard in 200 after serving her country for six years.

Karen Terry Program Manager/ Direct Care Specialist

I am a compassionate care counselor with over ten years of experience working with children, families, and adults. Whether you are looking for support with difficult circumstances in your personal life, parenting help, or relationship guidance I can be of service.

My professional experiences and specialties include Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Trauma-Related Disorders, identity issues, addictions, Autism Spectrum Disorder, AD/HD, ODD and more. I often incorporate evidenced-based therapy models such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Collaborative Problem Solving into my practice.

We specialize in helping clients who are experiencing problems both big and small and who are ready to build on the strengths and resiliency they already possess in order to reach a healthier, productive and more fulfilling life.

Brianna Anderson

Brianna (Brie) Anderson is very excited to join the team at New Insights Behavioral Health. She will work closely with social workers and administrative staff to help facilitate our programs. Brianna was born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Brianna received her Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland College Park. She has always had a passion to help others which started to increase following her time in school. Brianna worked effortlessly at the Institute for Creative Community Initiatives, mentoring high school students and communicating with community board members. Her job and volunteer experiences increased her understanding and knowledge of health, mental health, and social work. Brianna received acceptance into graduate school to study social work which will continue to aid her success. Brianna’s interests include advocating for social services, navigating the criminal justice system, mentoring, and assisting foster children and youth, as well as gathering research within the field. In Brianna’s free time she enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling as often as possible and incorporating self-care practices.
