The Intensive Outpatient Program (I.O.P.) offers more therapy than is available in a typical outpatient setting but it may also involve less contact with the patient than the standard outpatient mental health clinic. This program is utilized to help patients manage their symptoms while allowing them to return to their communities or go to their jobs after sessions. The kind of services and schedules for group sessions provided for this program vary depending on the clinical need of the client which can include the following:
- Two or three group sessions per day, two to five times per week
- Focused treatment for two or three hours each day; available two to five times per week
- Two or three therapeutic group sessions each day
- Group therapy and one or two other appropriate groups provided each day
With this program, the main focus is to help our clients maintain a healthy lifestyle development. We do that through:
- Substance abuse education and support
- Monitoring of self-administered medication, if requested
- Psychoeducation, to help individuals better understand their illness
- Smoking cessation, chronic disease management, and illness prevention
- Therapeutic activities including art therapy, wellness exercise, and computer training
